Dr. Michael Wolffsohn is Professor of Modern History, political scientist, writer and commentator. He is one of Germany´s leading experts on International Relations, Middle East and other Regional Conflicts, Military Affairs, German History and Politics, Religion and Politics, and last but not least the historical, political, economic, religious and cultural dimensions of German-Jewish-Israeli relations. He is known for his succinct analyses and his comments are published by national as well as international papers and e-media. In 2017, Michael Wolffsohn was honored as University Professor of the Year by the professional association Deutscher Hochschulverband.

Dr. Wolffsohn is the son of a German Jewish merchant family who fled from Germany to Palestine in 1939. He was born in Tel Aviv in 1947. Together with his parents he came to West-Berlin in 1954. He served voluntarily in the Israeli Army from 1967 to 1970. He studied History, Political Science and Economics in Berlin, Tel Aviv und New York. He taught Modern History in Munich at the University of the German Armed Forces from 1981 to 2012 and lectured at  top universities all over Europe, the US, Latin America, Israel, Taiwan, Hongkong and Thailand. He has published more than 30 books and 140 academic articles.

1981-2012 – Professor of Modern History, University of the German Armed Forces

2004 – “Best scheme of inner-urban living” for “Microcosm Gartenstadt Atlantic” at the all-German competition of the “Living City Foundation”

2006 – Culture Award from Berlin's biggest daily newspaper "B.Z." for "Microcosm Gartenstadt Atlantic" 

2006-2009 – UNESCO patronage of "Gartenstadt Atlantic" for the “World Day of Cultural Diversity”

2011 – Collegium Europeum Jenense Award, Friedrich Schiller University Jena

2012 – German-Israeli Friendship Aachen, Award

2012 and 2013 – Honorary Guest Villa Massimo, Rome

2017 – University Professor of the Year ("Hochschullehrer des Jahres")

2018 – Franz Werfel Human Rights Award, Foundation Center against Displacement

2022 – Honorary member of the liberal Jewish community Bet Haskala in Berlin

2023 – Order of Merit of the State of Berlin

2023 – Israel Jacobson Award 2023
